The Dog Who Volunteered to be Another Dog’s Eyes

You gotta love dogs; there’s no way around it! They’re so amazingly loyal, and that quality isn’t reserved just for their human buddies.

Lily is a Great Dane who lost both of her eyes six years ago to an incurable condition that was causing her eyelashes to grow into her eyeballs.

When she finally lost all of her eye sight, along came Maddison, another Great Dane, to consistently help Lily safely find her way.

“If they are out and about, for the majority of the time Maddison will lead and Lily will walk nearly touching her so she knows where to go…It’s lovely to watch. Maddison is very thoughtful and always looking out for her.”

-Louise Cabell, the manager of the Shrewsbury Dogs Trust where the pair used to live.

The two dogs spent almost all of their time together and would even curl up and sleep together at night.

Lily and Maddison had to be separated late last year, unfortunately, after Lily started attacking Maddison. Dog trainers were not able to rekindle the dogs’ former friendship, and the decision was made to place them in different homes. One can hardly blame Lily for losing her spirit over time, but that doesn’t make Maddison any less of an absolute champion!

According to the BBC, both dogs are living happy lives.
